It is a formidable predator in some regions, hunting moose, elk and other hoofed mammals. Living mostly in open habitats, it usually has little chance to seek cover when encountered and so tends to be very aggressive. Despite its habitually passive lifestyle, the grizzly bear is not to be trifled with. A typical day begins with foraging followed by a long nap, then more foraging at dusk. STATUS: With only about 350 individuals remaining in the wild, the Siberian tiger is one of the most endangered animals on the planet. The Siberian tiger requires a very large territory, anywhere from 1,200 to 1,600 square miles per animal. It lives at high altitudes in mixed deciduous and conifer forests. HABITAT: Its historic range, which included China and Korea, has been reduced to the Sikhote-Alin Mountains in southeastern Siberia. SIZE: Adults average between 400 and 675 pounds in weight and measure between 9 and 11 feet from head to rump. It catches large prey by striking the neck, dragging the animal down with its massive jaws and forelimbs, then suffocating it.
